Questions to Ask Yourself When Building a Bradenton Landscape

Before we start your Bradenton landscape design, we encourage you to look at your property from a variety of angles, taking everything into account.

In addition to our weekly lawn and maintenance services, we’re often called upon to apply our expertise to designing and installing brand-new landscapes. It’s a dream for us, like painting a picture with plants. And ultimately, our goal is for your masterpiece to come to life.

As dedicated Bradenton landscape designers, we’re excited to sit down with you and discuss your options for your property. Still, it helps if you’ve done some thinking about your preferences beforehand. You don’t have to have a detailed plan, just a rough idea that takes into account a number of options.

Here are some questions to ask yourself before we embark on your landscape journey.

How much of my current landscape do I want to keep?

We get everything from “I’d just like a few more plants” to “Clear out the whole thing and start from the ground up.” Both are doable! Go through your yard and consider which plants appeal to you and which ones won’t be missed.

It might be that all your current landscape needs is a good trim and cleanout. Sometimes that wild and unruly eyesore becomes a beautiful hedge; other times, even certain well-trimmed plants don’t fit in your landscape dreams.

Are there aspects of my home and yard that I want to highlight? Are there things I want to hide?

Landscapes aren’t just about the plants themselves. Proper plant placement, including knowing how big and/or thick certain species get, can draw the eye two and away from various aspects of your property. So you can highlight a picture window (you certainly don’t want a hedge right in front of it) and totally hide pipe work.

How will my property be used, and by whom?

This is a biggie. Do you want something that’s straight-up eye-catching? Do you do a lot of entertaining? Will your grandkids be coming over to play?

Of course, many yards are multi-purpose. That often means finding a landscape balance between ornamental beauty that still leaves enough room for a great game of tag.

How much do I want to spend?

Yep, money is often a factor, too. And we’re happy to work with you on that! The amount of work—and the number of plants—you can afford may limit what you can ask for. But never fear, when you use Big South, your Bradenton landscape always comes out looking great.

See Your Finished Landscape Before Work Even Starts

Even when you ask all the questions and talk to the experts, you probably can’t envision what your finished landscape is going to look like. That’s why we use virtual tools to map plants onto your current landscape, so we can give you an idea of what we’re thinking. You can also make suggestions like, “What would that palm look if it were on the other side?” or “I’ve always thought a hibiscus bush would look good over there.”

When we do a big landscape design job, our goal is always to give you the landscape of your dreams. Communication is key, and we take everything into account—and that includes making sure you’ve taken everything into account, too!
